Portrait of Carmen, unsigned
c. 1942, oil on canvas, 16x12

A young soldier stationed in Europe during WWII carried a photograph of his bride in his wallet and decided one day to have an artist in France paint her portrait on canvas. Many years later the painting was discovered by his grown children locked in a trunk in the attic along with other precious keepsakes. The painting was wrapped in newspaper which had stuck to the surface of the canvas along with mold and mildew.
